It didn't take long until I found out that the PC is more than a working
tool. First I had to program the games myself because my father did not
want to have games in the computer he needed to work. But an 8088 with
20MB HD and Hercules-graphics-mode isn't a big gaming machine anyway.
Later the games started to drop into my life. Now I have a small collection I play sometimes. I did my way through Myst (and I still don't find the courage to start with Riven ;) and finished Privateer I and II (if these guys only were capable to program a gameflow-database which is working!!!!). At the moment I concentrate in Command & Conquer (II and III) and Starcraft. The latter is surely one of the best games and it also works perfectly with my whole machine park from the Pentium 90 up to the K6 II/400. Games I absolutely dislike are the REALLY violent ones. I don't say Privateer or Red Alert weren't violent but there are neither ugly monsters which give you nightmares nor cute bunnies which turn into a big lake of blood if you accidentally hit them. Maybe the latter is close to reality but if I need such reality I can turn on the news on TV! My "career" as a game-programmer (Well, my brother called them always "semi-professional") leaded to the idea I formulated under "Interstella" NB: I also like to play games where you need some friends instead of a computer. Unfortunately I hardly ever find somebody which shares this passion. |
